@MicMacGrass1 This is probably the bank’s idea. Supposedly, to remove fraud liability from themselves and place in on the tax payer (Fannie and Freddie are largely owned by taxpayers). If these home owners aren’t able to handle the mortgage after refinancing, the liability is placed on Fannie and Freddie. Meaning the taxpayers pick up the tab if they fail – the banks would have no liability after refinancing.

Not a chance. You must be employed. And home equity loans (HEL/HELOC) are only available on primary residence. Consider renting out your second home for income, or at least cover all its expenses. Or sell it, if you can.
